Synopsis

Yaathra is a story about Unnikrishnan (Mammootty), an ex-convict, who shares his tragic love story with his fellow passengers in a school bus. He is an orphan and a forest officer who falls in love with a local girl named Thulasi during his time in a forest area.

Unnikrishnan and Thulasi decide to get married, but on his way to inform his best friend about the marriage, he is mistakenly arrested by the police as a suspected criminal. He accidentally kills a policeman and is sentenced to life imprisonment.

During his early days in prison, Unnikrishnan writes a letter to Thulasi asking her to forget him. As his prison term nears completion, he writes another letter asking her to light a lamp if she still waits for him.

After enduring years of torment in prison, Unnikrishnan finally goes to meet Thulasi. The question on everyone's mind, including his fellow passengers, is whether she still waits for him.
