Sinopsis

Un niño amish de 8 años y su madre están viajando a Filadelfia, de camino a visitar a la hermana de la madre. Mientras esperan en la estación de tren, el joven niño presencia un brutal asesinato dentro de uno de los baños.

El detective de policía John Book es asignado para investigar el asesinato del hombre, quien resulta ser un policía encubierto. Pronto, Book descubre que está en gran peligro cuando los culpables saben sobre su investigación y se esconde en la comunidad amish.

Allí, aprende el modo de vida entre los lugareños amish, que consiste en la no violencia y la agricultura. Book pronto comienza un romance con la madre del niño, pero su romance es prohibido por los estándares amish.
