Sinopsis
Line of Duty sigue al Detective Sargento Steven "Steve" Arnott (Martin Compston), un ex oficial de armas autorizado que lideró una operación para atrapar a un terrorista islámico que pretendía detonar una bomba, pero el equipo de ataque ingresó por error al departamento equivocado y disparó y mató a un hombre inocente desarmado. En la investigación subsiguiente, Arnott se negó a encubrir la negligencia en la planificación y ejecución del asalto y, al no poder trabajar en su unidad, Arnott recibe una transferencia a AC-12, una unidad encargada de descubrir la corrupción policial.
Arnott es emparejado con la Detective Constable Kathrine "Kate" Fleming (Vicky McClure), una oficial encubierta altamente elogiada con un agudo instinto investigativo. Trabajan bajo la supervisión del Superintendente Edward "Ted" Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), quien es uno de varios Oficiales Investigadores Superiores responsables de descubrir la corrupción dentro de la fuerza policial.
A lo largo de la serie, AC-12 investiga casos aparentemente dispares que involucran a oficiales de policía aparentemente corruptos, con cada serie centrándose en un oficial corrupto diferente y AC-12 pronto se da cuenta de la naturaleza pervasiva de la corrupción y los profundos vínculos de la policía con un grupo delictivo organizado con conexiones con el tráfico de drogas, la prostitución, la explotación infantil y el tráfico de personas.
