Synopsis

Un ancien rock star, Johnny Boz, est brutalement tué pendant un rapport sexuel, et l'affaire est confiée au détective Nick Curran du SFPD. Pendant l'enquête, Nick rencontre Catherine Tramell, une romancière criminelle qui était la petite amie de Boz lorsqu'il est mort. Catherine se révèle être une femme très intelligente et manipulatrice, et bien que Nick soit plus ou moins convaincu qu'elle ait tué Boz, il est incapable de trouver des preuves.

Plus tard, lorsque Nilsen, le rival de Nick dans la police, est tué, Nick soupçonne l'implication de Catherine. Il commence alors à jouer un dangereux jeu d'esprit rempli de luxure avec Catherine pour la piéger, mais à mesure que leur relation progresse, le nombre de victimes augmente et des preuves contradictoires obligent Nick à commencer à remettre en question ses propres soupçons sur la culpabilité de Catherine.
