Synopsis

Les Freelings sont une famille de banlieue typique. Le mari, Steve, vend des biens immobiliers dans leur lotissement en constante expansion et Diane est une mère au foyer s'occupant de leurs trois enfants, Dana, Robbie et la petite Carol Anne.

Des choses étranges commencent à se produire dans la maison cependant : les portes des placards s'ouvrent toutes seules, les meubles se réarrangent et les chaises glissent sur le sol de la cuisine.

Il s'agit d'un peu de fantaisie au début, mais cela devient bientôt très sérieux lorsque Carol Anne disparaît dans un monde parallèle où, étrangement, elle ne peut être communiquée qu'à travers le bruit blanc de leur télévision.

Une équipe d'enquêteurs paranormaux emménage dans la maison, mais les forces qui ont enlevé Carol Anne sont maléfiques et puissantes, nécessitant les services de Tangina, une femme qui a déjà traité cette situation auparavant.
