Martha is a businesswoman and divorced mother of two children: Augusta and Jack. However, when the docile Augusta becomes a teenager, feelings of anger and self-hatred cause her personality to undergo a terrifying transformation, and Martha realizes this isn't just typical teenage angst. Augusta starts using drugs, drinking and ends up on the street. Her mother and her father worried about her contact an educational advisor, who advises them to send Augusta to a strict wilderness camp for troubled teens. However, even the hardy and experienced administrators of the institution find August a difficulty in keeping under control. Martha realizes that there is no response to her daughter's behavior.
