Synopsis

Castello Cavalcanti is set in a small Italian village where people are seated outside a caffe, chatting, drinking, and playing cards. Among them is a boy playing with a small Formula One toy car. A car horn is heard in the distance, and the villagers produce small flags in anticipation of a race passing by.

Through an archway, a motorcycle leads a group of race cars with indiscernible shouting from the drivers. The cars drive by as a man takes pictures and the villagers cheer, waving their flags. Suddenly, we hear Jed Cavalcanti (Jason Swartzman) coming up behind shouting, "Goddammit!" as the car crashes offscreen. The caption reveals that the setting is Italy, September 1955.

Jed is seen sitting in a burning Formula One car, quickly getting out and running into the caffe to get water. Some men help Jed put out the fire as he curses and blames the crash on the car. Speaking English with an American accent to the Italian-speaking villagers, Jed sits with the men playing cards and inquires about the next bus, still frustrated about the car's construction.

Upon learning that the town is named Castello Cavalcanti, Jed realizes his family originated from there and greets the villagers as family. One of the villagers is Jed's great great grand uncle, whom Jed kisses. He then goes into the caffe to take a phone call from his significant other, informing her about the crash and his location, continuing to blame the car for the accident.

When the bus arrives, Jed asks about the cost of the drink, but the hostess insists it's on the house. Despite his insistence, the hostess and voices in the background reaffirm that it's complimentary. Jed decides to wait for the next bus and orders a plate of spaghetti.
