Downsizing is a science fiction film set in the future where a scientist invents a process to shrink people to a height of five inches in order to solve overpopulation and global warming.
The main characters, Paul and Audrey Safranek, a married couple in Omaha facing financial problems, meet Dave and Carol Johnson, who have already undergone the downsizing process.
While the inventors claim that downsizing is environmentally friendly by reducing waste, Dave argues that the benefits go beyond that and actually improve one's life by increasing the value of their money.
Curious about the possibilities of downsizing, Paul and Audrey decide to undergo the process and move to Leisureland, New Mexico, a popular community for small individuals.
