La punyalada is a short story written by the Spanish author Ramón del Valle-Inclán. The story is set in a small village in Galicia, Spain, and follows the life of a young man named Juan Manuel.
Juan Manuel is a poor and humble man who works as a fisherman to support his family. One day, he falls in love with a beautiful young woman named Rosa, who is the daughter of the village mayor. Despite their different social statuses, Juan Manuel and Rosa begin a secret relationship.
However, their love is soon discovered by Rosa's father, who is furious and forbids them from seeing each other. Desperate to be together, Juan Manuel and Rosa decide to run away and start a new life in a different town.
As they are leaving the village, Rosa's father confronts them and a violent altercation ensues. In a moment of rage, Rosa's father stabs Juan Manuel with a knife, fatally wounding him. The story ends with Juan Manuel dying in Rosa's arms, their love tragically cut short by a single stab.
