In 1848 during the tumultuous era of European revolutions shaking the continent out of its feudal-based empire-based system the Wallachian politician Nicolae Balcescu is trying to reach the same revolutionary goals at home.Together with other members of the Wallachian elite Balcescu forces the monarch's abdication and forms a new revolutionary provisional government in Wallachia.But his idealistic goals of modernizing his country and enacting new land reforms so cherished by his countrymen are running afoul of Ottoman and Russian Empires' foreign policies that aim to keep small neighboring countries such as Wallachia into permanent servitude and dependence.
