Jan Bocquoy narrates the story of her sexual life up to the age of 28, imagining her conception (drunken parents, the encounter uncovered for ten seconds) and recounting her first orgasm (at Eddy's hands, in a beachside trailer, while watching Laurel and Hardy), their comparative experiences with the girls, and their move from Harelbeck to Brussels. There he meets Greta, a waitress at a bohemian café, who teaches him the Kama Sutra, the naked Esther, who reads him stories, and Thérèse, his wife of three years. They separated after two children; he moves into a small apartment, writes pornography to pay the bills, works sporadically on a novel, defends anarchism and meets more women. His self-confidence grows.
