Live with Kelly and Mark is the second longest-running daytime talk show, behind Phil Donahue. The show was originally hosted by Regis Philbin from 1988 until 2011, and Kathie Lee Gifford from 1988 until 2000. Michael Strahan took over from 2012 until 2016, followed by Ryan Seacrest starting in 2017. Kelly Ripa, a former soap star, joined the show in 2001.
The hosts wanted to do more than just a celebrity talk show. They introduced a trivia chat via telephone, where a home viewer could win a vacation by answering a question about the show's recent guest. The show also offers a door prize for a member of the studio audience.
In addition to celebrity guests, Live with Kelly and Mark features musical performances and recurring segments on fashion, food, health, and lifestyle topics. The popularity of Regis and Kathie Lee on the show led to other celebrity hosts like Joan Rivers, Rosie O'Donnell, Donny and Marie Osmond, Ellen DeGeneres, and Rachael Ray.
