Synopsis

In the early eighteenth century a blacksmith is innocently condemned to death. When the local executioner in anger kills a woman prisoner, the blacksmith gets a chance to escape the death penalty by becoming the new executioner. He falls in love with a lovely young harlot, buys her contract, and marries her. When she sets one of his prisoners free, his life is forfeit.
