Mythopathy is a story set in the early 1970s, during the rule of a military junta in Greece. Pre-teen Stavros discovers a strange accompaniment to the awakening of eros: he subverts the meanings of classical myths, creating strange physical symptoms in those around him.
Stavros' conservative parents are perplexed and flustered by his behavior, taking him from specialist to specialist as diagnoses vary. Eventually, a fortune-teller deems that the boy is a victim of a rare, ancient disease that manifests itself when he is in love.
After the collapse of the junta, Stavros navigates the challenges of love and politics at university. The influence of his strange affliction extends from his immediate environment into the political arena, shaping his experiences in unexpected ways.
