One of the greatest epics, Ramayan, written by Valmiki, reveals the journey of Lord Rama, from his marriage to Sita to the assassination of Ravana. King Dashratha's eldest son Rama is the heir apparent to the throne of Ayodhya, but Kaikeyi forces Dashratha to make his son Bharat king. Kaikeyi further requests Dashratha to send Rama into exile for 14 years, to which Rama willingly agrees. He leaves, accompanied by Sita and her younger brother Laxmana. However, when Bharat learns of his mother's cruelty, he goes to the jungle to persuade Rama to return to Ayodhya. But he returns only with Rama's sandals which he places on the throne. Years later, Sita is kidnapped by Ravana, the king of Lanka. Rama, with the help of the monkey god Hanuman and Laxmana, goes to Lanka to kill Ravana and bring back Sita.
