The Beslan Siege
In September 2004, a group of Chechen militants stormed a school in Beslan, Russia, taking over 1,100 people hostage, including many children. The siege lasted for three days, during which the hostages were subjected to extreme conditions, including lack of food and water.
The Russian government launched a rescue operation on the third day, resulting in a chaotic and violent end to the siege. The operation led to the deaths of over 300 people, including 186 children.
The Beslan Siege remains one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Russian history, and it continues to be a source of controversy and pain for the survivors and the families of the victims.
