A battle is raging in Salisbury Maryland, a small city on Maryland's Eastern Shore, over the existence of a sign commemorating a Confederate General John H Winder. What began as a simple Facebook post, grew into multiple petitions and protests involving local politicians, descendants of the civil war, and social justice warriors. The filmmakers set out to trace the origin of the conflict over the sign. What they realize is the farther they dig, the more conflict seems to exist. Setting the sign in context requires an understanding of history in a place that is considered by some to be the South, and by other to be the North. As the filmmakers continue to pull on the strings of time through this unique place, the past starts to illuminate so much of the conflict of the present. The sign has become much more than a historical marker, exposing deep racial divisions and wounds from the complicated history of the Eastern Shore.
