Under the Sand is a French drama film directed by François Ozon. The story follows Marie, a middle-aged woman who is devastated by the sudden disappearance of her husband, Jean. Despite his absence, Marie refuses to believe that he is dead and continues to live as if he is still alive.
As the years pass, Marie's denial begins to take a toll on her mental health and relationships with others. She becomes increasingly isolated and detached from reality, unable to move on from the loss of her husband. However, when Jean's body is finally discovered buried in the sand, Marie is forced to confront the truth and come to terms with her grief.
The film explores themes of denial, grief, and acceptance, as Marie struggles to let go of the past and find closure. Through powerful performances and poignant storytelling, Under the Sand offers a moving portrayal of one woman's journey through loss and healing.
