Synopsis

Girl, Interrupted is a movie that follows the story of Susanna Kaysen, who in 1967, had a headache and chased a bottle of aspirin with a bottle of vodka. This led her to be admitted to the mental institution, Claymoore.

At Claymoore, Susanna is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder by Dr. Melvin Potts. She meets other patients in the woman's ward, including Georgina Tuskin, a pathological liar obsessed with The Wizard of Oz; Polly Clark, a childlike schizophrenic; Janet Webber, a sardonic anorexic patient; Daisy Randone, a girl who isolates herself and only eats her father's chicken; and Lisa Rowe, a sociopath who manipulates the other patients and causes trouble for the nurses.

Throughout the movie, Lisa exerts control over Susanna, showcasing her manipulative and dangerous behavior. The film culminates in Susanna's release from Claymoore after an 18-month stay.

Girl, Interrupted tackles important themes such as mental health, abuse, self-harm, and suicide, highlighting the struggles faced by individuals in psychiatric institutions.
