"Stormin'" history teacher Norman Warner is held with great reverence at Fallbrook High School, he was voted Teacher of the Year by his student body forty-three years in a row. His son, current biology teacher Matt Warner, doesn't have the same reverence from students, who see him as a stick in the mud. After Norman's death, Matt, who received some words of wisdom from his father before he died and who has always felt in his father's shadow, feels the burden of keeping Warner's winning streak for Teacher of the Year alive. His task becomes even more difficult when he hires Fallbrook alum Michael D'Angelo as his new history teacher. Quickly given the catchy nickname "Mr. D" by everyone at school, Michael captures the imagination of not only the students but all the other teachers, that is, except for Matt, who uses all his energies to discredit Mr. D. and its methods.
