The Chaser is a short story about a young man who visits a mysterious old man to buy a love potion. The old man warns him that the potion is very powerful and will make the woman he desires fall madly in love with him, but it will only last for a short time. The young man, desperate to win the woman's affections, buys the potion anyway.
After giving the potion to the woman, she does indeed fall in love with him, but her love quickly becomes obsessive and suffocating. The young man realizes that he made a terrible mistake and goes back to the old man to ask for an antidote.
The old man reveals that there is no antidote and that the only way to escape the woman's love is to use a different potion that will make her forget him completely. The young man is horrified by this revelation but ultimately decides to use the potion to free himself from the woman's obsessive love.
The story ends with the young man feeling guilty and remorseful for what he has done, realizing that true love cannot be forced or manipulated.
