Once upon a time, there was a Velveteen Rabbit who longed to become real. He was given to a young boy as a Christmas present and quickly became his favorite toy. The boy loved the rabbit so much that he played with him every day, causing the rabbit to become worn and shabby.
One day, the boy fell ill with scarlet fever and the doctors ordered that all of his toys be burned to prevent the spread of the disease. The Velveteen Rabbit was placed in a sack and taken to the garden to be burned. As he lay there, crying and alone, a magical fairy appeared and brought him to life.
The fairy explained to the rabbit that he had become real through the love of the boy. The rabbit was overjoyed and went to live in the forest with the other rabbits, finally achieving his dream of becoming real.
