Brimming with optimism, the young college student, aspiring writer, and poet, Joanna Smith Rakoff, arrives in mid-90s New York City after landing a temporary job as an assistant at stern Margaret's prestigious literary agency.
Entrusted with the unglamorous task of dealing with fan letters, Joanna is utterly unaware, however, that the agency represents the interests of literary giants, such as Dylan Thomas and F. Scott Fitzgerald, to name a few, and the office's most prominent client: the notoriously reclusive writer, J.D. Salinger.
But, more than anything in the world, bright-eyed Joanna wants to extraordinary. Can she learn a thing or two about life and writing from the famous author of "The Catcher in the Rye"?
